Frequently Asked Questions
How does an inspection work?
Start an inspection and take a close-up photo of the problem (required). You can add an optional area-overview shot and, for appliances, an optional photo of the appliance's label. When you run a diagnosis, RepairLens returns a severity level, a plain-English likely cause, an ordered action plan, DIY-vs-pro guidance (including which trade to call), and a broad cost range. You can re-diagnose the same problem anytime.
What do the severity levels mean?
Every diagnosis lands on one of four levels: Cosmetic (looks bad, doesn't hurt anything), Keep an eye on it (watch for change), Address soon (schedule a fix), and Urgent — get help now (stop and bring in qualified help). These are AI-generated estimates, not a professional assessment.
Why did I get an "Urgent — get help now" warning instead of DIY steps?
That's by design. When the AI output identifies a covered gas, electrical, structural, major water or sewage, mold, asbestos, or high-tension garage-door hazard, an app-owned guard forces an urgent warning and professional guidance instead of DIY steps. Recognition is best effort and may miss a hazard. RepairLens is informational only and is not a substitute for a licensed contractor, inspector, electrician, plumber, or other qualified professional; for safety-critical issues, always consult a professional.
Where are my photos and inspection history stored?
On your device, in private app storage. There is no account. Photos, an optional issue note, and a prior summary are sent for AI processing when you tap Diagnose; photo metadata (including GPS location) is stripped first. Google's AI service processes that content solely to generate your result, not to train AI models. LightPath Apps does not store the diagnosis unless you separately submit an optional content report. You can also choose to export or share an inspection; the destination you select receives that copy. See the privacy policy for details.
How do I delete my data?
Delete an inspection inside the app, use the inspection-data wipe in Settings, or uninstall RepairLens to remove local photos and history. Deleting history does not reset usage allowances, remove copies you previously exported, or cancel Pro. iPhone Keychain usage counts can survive reinstalling; Android usage counts are install-scoped. For optional content reports, subscription records, or anything else, see our privacy requests page.
What's included free, and what does Pro cost?
The free tier has no app-imposed limit on locally saved inspection reports and includes your first 2 AI-assisted inspections. One is used only after a diagnosis is successfully saved; failed or cancelled analyses do not consume one. RepairLens Pro adds unlimited AI diagnoses and follow-up chat, subject to reasonable abuse and service-availability protections, plus PDF reports. Monthly and yearly plans offer a 7-day free trial for eligible subscribers. The App Store or Google Play shows current local pricing, trial eligibility, and renewal terms before you buy. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled.
How do I restore my Pro purchase or cancel?
Use Restore Purchases in the app's settings while signed in to the same Apple or Google Play account you subscribed with. Purchases do not transfer between the App Store and Google Play. For an iPhone purchase, open Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > RepairLens Pro. For an Android purchase, open Google Play > profile > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions > RepairLens. Cancel before renewal; Apple advises cancelling a trial at least 24 hours before it ends. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Request refunds through the store that billed you.
How do PDF reports, maps, and Privacy Lock work?
Pro can export an inspection as a PDF with photos and AI findings; review it before choosing a destination in the system share sheet. Basic text sharing is free. A trade search opens Apple Maps on iPhone or a maps app on Android, with the map provider controlling its own location permissions. Privacy Lock is free and can be enabled in Settings to use supported device biometrics or your device passcode.
The camera isn't working
RepairLens needs camera access to photograph the problem. Open iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and confirm RepairLens is allowed. On Android, open Settings > Apps > RepairLens > Permissions > Camera (wording varies by device). If it's already on, toggling it off and back on, or restarting the app, usually clears it up.
